Twilight

There are some things about twilight that I like. No, I dislike. Ok I like and dislike.

Things I like to do when its twilight

1) Write. Read a book. No a short story instead.

2) Listen to music- Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Lucky Ali- in the same order.

3) Go out for a walk. I wish I stayed near the sea. Play with kids in the park and catch butterflies. Also, I remember a very excited little kid running alone in the park. On being asked she laughed and replied, “buddhu, mein macchar ke peechey bhaag rehi hun. Hum khel rahey hein. Bhaago”. (Idiot, I am running after the mosquitoes. We are playing. Run) I joined in ofcourse 🙂

4) Sit quietly staring the vast orange/ red/ fading blue/ sky/ clouds. If there are kites even better. I am so random, I like to play, go for a walk and at the same time sit quietly. So, movement and static can be together in my thoughts at least. Ignore, read all the points as independent entity. Coherence is sin for me and my thoughts. Guess, it’s with everybody. Isn’t it?

5) Having Maggie with a cup of coffee, sitting at the jhula (swing) at my place. Watering my plants.

Things I hate

1) To Sleep

2) To do things I am ‘told’ to do. Even if it is one of the aforementioned likeable things. The moment it becomes a part of an order I hate to admit to it. Twilight gives me that sense of a breaking away from the usual, a rupture from the ‘ordered’ things. It is by very nature a phenomena out of order- neither day nor night.

3) To stay indoors. Though these days I do this often because, I am too lazy and also because I have exams.

4) To see people fighting/shouting. Though, I do not appreciate it at any hour of the day. But, in Delhi it’s a usual sight we do not need a reason to start an argument and then you have a crowd saying, “ohh beta ladaai. Bhaaaaisaaab”.

5) The time when the darkness starts to take over and the twilight fades into night. I love a starry midnight as well. Perhaps, another post for midnight.

I have an exam tomorrow. So, guess I will stick to the sudden sputters of my demented self. I leave thee with what Wordsworth calls, spontaneous overflow of powerful emotions. Kites here as well, generated the same emotions so captured in the same expression.

Twilight…

Silky brown tresses
Flowing on her face
Moist black eyes
Gazing the azure skies
Myriad coloured kites
Swam in the air
Soaring hopes
A fleeting spark
Of the dying sun

Ohh by the way, what are your thoughts about twilight?

  1. pretty much the same! only, when i was at home, I’d like to go to the terrace of my 14 floor building. Of course, with the pollution being an obstruction to stars, It wasn’t the sky, but the ground i’d be looking at. all the traffic, headlights, orange sky, birds, a yellow dirty, patchy moon…

and the jhula at your house is part of fond memories! love ya!

  2. things i like
reading poetry, writing memories, listening to life, watching children… anytime of the day 🙂

    coherence is a sin. ditto.

would like to have a jhula at my place too, though maggie khana chhod diya hai 🙂

    things i hate:

    to be woken up
yes, to be ‘told’ anything to do
indoor or outdoor doesn’t matter as long as i’m within my mind
to see people fighting is not bad as long as they don’t end up killing each other. waise, i loved ur description of a typical delhiite’s reaction to a street fight…”bhaisaab” lol

ummmm, i’ll have to wait for a spontaneous flow of emotions to write about twilight.

  3. 1. I live by the sea.

    2. If you listen to Dylan, Joel, Ali-in the same order then why the penchant with “Twilight gives me that sense of a breaking away from the usual, a rupture from the ‘ordered’ things”? Isn’t Dylan, Joel, Ali an “order”.

    3. All the best for your exams.

    4. Twilight makes things look lovelier to me.

    5. You write well and I really like this post!!!

  4. 1. As a kid, I used to fear the twilight. I was told that this was the time when ghosts come out. Since in a village, there r enough space to be alone, I made sure that I come home before that or at least i have people around me during that time..
    2. After going to my school, twilight was prayer time. Mine was no missionary school, so even the prayers would be secular with no invocation to God.
    3. In delhi, I used to actually pray for couple of years may be..twilight is the Maghrib namaaz time.
    4. In calcutta, when there would be no class burden, with a bunch of friends I loved sitting by the lake side in Salt lake…that is wonderful

and this post is very well written..invokes pristine emotions.. that compelled me to think about my twilights..

@Anand: welcome. About, order , well noted, but, I told you read every point as separate entity. Coherence is a sin. Thank you
@Baharul: Ghosts and twilight, good point
@dada: Haah as always I will say “I knew it” But i thought i will get a nod on Maggie point 😛

your post reminded me of all the beautiful twilights i've had till now and how i've evolved in my way of enjoyment..as a kid it was all about games..running around, playing uunch neech ka papda or chupan chupaii,kho-kho & every possible street game…at times it was all about being acting as mummy ki coolie for sabzi shopping..bt i loved it nonetheless for i was always rewarded with the demanded things
nw i love to enjoy all alone..walking, listening to music, gazing at the sky, knitting dreams usually concluded with an ice cream, favourite chocolate or golgappas.
it definitely brings back memories..with a smile.
oh n i too love d sight of a star studded sky so i'll be looking forward for a blog on it as well.

Thank you for visting. Yep will surely write about star studded sky. Delhi does not give me the privilege to enjoy one. In our village we sleep at terrace and see shooting stars like karan johar.
and lastly u reminded me of my twilights that i had forgotten-
unch neecha ka papda uunch maangi ki neech? 🙂 Do visit again.
