Tips for pregnant women to ensure safety

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful yet intriguing phases of any woman’s life. It is also a period when a woman is quite vulnerable as she has to take care of both herself and the new life germinating inside her.

I was probably a little complacent and ended up with Dengue in my 8th month of pregnancy. Reading that report was a nightmare. My family & I were quite scared but thankfully, the bout wasn’t severe. I managed to recover within a week but I learned an important lesson – that one has to be extra careful and cautious.

So, here are a few tips that will help expecting mothers to ensure their and their yet-to-be-born baby’s safety.

  1. Stay well protected from mosquitoes

This has to be on the top of my list (once bitten and twice shy). It’s very important to keep oneself safe from mosquitoes during pregnancy as it could prove fatal for your developing fetus. The best and the simplest way to do so is using Good knight Activ+ while you’re indoors. One can switch between normal and Activ+ modes depending on the number of mosquitoes.

  1. Comfortable footwear

Pregnancy brings with it its own share of pains and gains. And most of the time, the ‘Gain’ comes only after months of bearing unfathomable pains. Though we can’t do away with all such pains, proactive measures for others can surely do the trick. A comfortable pair of shoes or footwear can help alleviate many of the pains that come with pregnancy, especially during the third trimester.

With the weight gain and changing of the center of gravity, you definitely need a pair that is both comfortable and supportive of your bodily changes.

  1. Maternity wear

It’s a big market out there and not without a reason. The moment my second trimester began, I started feeling uncomfortable in my denim (some women start experiencing the discomfort in the second month itself). As it was my first time, I had no idea about the right maternity wear. Thankfully, my gynecologist helped me and suggested a few options. Maternity wear is a must for a lot of reasons like change in size, hormonal changes, temperature factor and most importantly – comfort.

  1. Say no to alcohol and tobacco

While one should stay away from alcohol and tobacco generally, it becomes a strict instruction for every expecting mother. Alcohol and tobacco can adversely affect the development of the fetus and result in many birth defects.

  1. Eat healthy food and exercise

I am not suggesting for you to eat for two but take cues from your changing body. Also make sure you eat healthy, home-made food. This will keep you safe from unnecessary infections from unhygienic street food. Talk to your doctor about your calorie intake and plan your diet accordingly.

Along with healthy food, engage in some light form of exercise to stay active. The best way to do so is walking for 20-30 minutes daily. Before you step outdoors for a walk, Good knight Fabric Roll-On is a must, since pregnant mothers are more susceptible to mosquitoes due to the release of excess carbon dioxide. Just 4 dots on your clothes to ensure that mosquitoes do not bother you. It is also pediatrician certified & hence safe for use.

I hope my tips will help you navigate through your pregnancy in a hassle-free way and keep you and your baby safe and healthy.
